What is DEIB?

DEIB is an acronym that stands for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

What is diversity?

Diversity is the state of being different from other people. These differences can be physical, mental, emotional, and generally includes age, race, religion, gender, sexual preference as but a few examples.

What is equity?

Equity represents the fair and impartial treatment of people.

What is inclusion?

Inclusion is acceptance by other people, ideas, and viewpoints.

What is belonging?

Belonging is the sense of being a part of something.

Not convinced that Diversity in Sales, Enablement, Operations, Customer Succeess, and other customer-facing teams matter for your bottom line?

“Companies in the top quartile for racial and ethnic diversity are 35 percent more likely to have financial returns above their respective national industry medians.” –According to McKinsey

Morally, there should be little doubt of the importance of diversity in sales and around it, and the broader focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) is vital. 

And, if your board, executive team, or anyone else doubts the economic value, this study, and others, should make it clear it’s not just a moral issue; it’s an economic one too.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) - Our Commitment to ChangeThere is much that the go-to-market community can accomplish.  One area where massive change is required is Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB).

Our Goal?

Creating a go-to-market profession consisting of professionals that better represent the diversity of the world’s population.

When I began my journey creating what is now called Trust Enablement, I started from a bottom-up approach, focusing on “Helping Enablement Practitioners and Leaders Succeed.”

While this was good, I extended it further to recognize that it was critical to ensure that all customer-facing teams, and the businesses using Enablement, were tremendously successful.  


If the businesses were successful, they would hire more Enablement professionals at higher wages, allowing them to have better lives for themselves and their families.

And through this, other businesses could flourish; from software vendors through consultants — we could create a virtuous flywheel.

But, the goal was still incomplete. That fact is why the goal of Trust Enablement continues to grow, as you see on our website, to:

Helping Go-To-Market Teams Learn and Earn

We are weaving all three components of this puzzle into our mission: People, Business Outcomes, and DEIB. 

Why not join with another effort focused on diversity in sales?

We applaud the work of the Sales Enablement SocietySeismic, and SV Academy to launch their Enableship program, I believe launching a separate program is beneficial.


Inclusion, Equity, Belonging, and Diversity in Sales Enablement and elsewhere cannot result from one viewpoint, one group, only.

Why are we launching a separate effort?

Actual change needs to come from the people in the trenches.

We will be forming a council of individual contributors and leaders to determine where we focus our efforts.  

Due to this, our approach may not align other programs.

Multiple solutions from multiple groups are beneficial.

Transparency and collaboration are critical elements of change.

I have long stated that Trust, Transparency, Honesty, and Collaboration are centerpieces to success.

We will publish meeting minutes, key points of agreement, commitments, and progress on those commitments.

Global Commitment

Our goal is to launch this with support from more than three businesses. 

We will not have companies signing up for different levels of support, but we will celebrate different types of support.

  • Diversity requires us to celebrate and support differences; that includes different types of support for our efforts.
  • Inclusion means we will include every participant possible right from the outset.
  • Equality means every supporter will get recognized, but no tiered levels of support lead to the perception that some organizations are more supportive than others.
  • Belonging requires listening to ideas and criticism from everyone who participates.

2022 is a year of change, and I look forward to collaborating with each of you to make that change for the better.


What are we doing first?

We will begin small by spotlighting individuals, companies, and programs from which we can all learn.  

We will begin with blog-style interviews, capturing both stories of inspiration and insights on what others can do to follow in their paths.
